Digital Basel, Co-Working Space Basel, 2022

The Office for Environment and Energy (AUE) is the point of contact for energy and environmental protection issues in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. With the new replacement building by JessenVollenweider Architekt:innen, AUE is setting an exemplary benchmark in terms of sustainable construction and a lighthouse project in a prominent urban location.
In addition to the individual departments of the AUE, the new building will also house the new Office for Digitalisation Basel-Stadt.

INCHFURNITURE from Basel was commissioned to design and implement a contemporary, flexible (hybrid) working environment.
Together with INCH-Furniture, a lighting concept was developed that responds to the flexibility of the use of space and is intended to do justice to the idea of sustainability and reuse of resources.

The bespoke ceiling luminaire in the large meeting room was created using discarded floor lamps from Basel city administration. The luminaire heads were equipped with the latest LED technology and arranged into a new luminaire configuration. For the workspaces, a non-centred track layout was used, which was designed to meet the needs of the room's use. If necessary, the spotlights can be repositioned in a few simple steps.

More than 80% of the furniture used has been refreshed or reworked, i.e. partly adapted in terms of colour and design. The same approach applies to the curtains, plants and lighting.
In addition to all these design considerations, the planning also focused on the energy requirements. In parallel to the room lighting, the plants also had to be put in the correct light. The plant lighting runs independently of the presence via a timer program.
